How to tell a legitimate game code seller from a scam

Game-code resale is a category thick with scams, so healthy suspicion is the right starting point. The good news is that the tells are consistent. A few minutes of checking separates the shops that will deliver from the ones that will take your crypto and vanish.

The one request that ends the conversation

No legitimate seller ever needs your game account login. A prepaid code is redeemed by you, on the publisher's own site — for Roblox that is roblox.com/redeem, for Fortnite it is fortnite.com/vbuckscard. If a seller asks for your Roblox password, your Epic login, or offers to add currency by signing into your account, stop. That is an account-takeover setup, and it commonly ends in a ban because publishers treat account sharing as a terms violation.

Signals a real shop shows

• A registered business identity: a legal entity name, a real address, and a support email on the shop's own domain — not a Gmail address.
• A written refund policy that admits limits. A shop that promises refunds on everything has not thought about redeemed codes, which no one can take back.
• Real stock and real prices shown on the page. A shop that holds inventory can show live counts; scam pages show a permanent fake 'only 2 left'.
• A Trustpilot or Sitejabber profile with a spread of reviews over time, not five five-star reviews posted the same week.

Signals to walk away from

• Countdown timers and 'almost gone' banners that reset when you reload. Manufactured urgency is a pressure tactic, not information.
• Prices far below every other seller. Codes have a wholesale floor; a price well under it means the codes are stolen, fake, or never coming.
• No legal pages, or generic ones that never name a company.
• A checkout that pushes you to an unrelated payment handle or a personal wallet with no invoice.
